Our School - School Awards

The Assumption School strives to develop the student’s self-discipline, as well as affirm and acknowledge the genuine efforts of the students. Following is a brief explanation of our school awards.

MARY MACKILLOP AWARD
Mary MacKillop awards are recognition of outstanding character traits in our students (e.g. self-discipline, generosity, reliability, self-pride, caring for each other). Individuals and class groups earn points for their class. Members of the Student Council collect the points each week, and weekly class winners and runners-up are announced at Monday assembly. The Mary MacKillop plaque is awarded to the winning Infants and Primary classes.

STUDENT OF THE WEEK AWARD
Student of the Week is awarded by the class teacher for a student demonstrating academic excellence in one or more key learning areas. The Award is given weekly at Monday assembly to an Infants and a Primary student. The names of the students are published in the school newsletter.

BEST WORKER AWARD
The Best Worker is awarded by a class teacher for achievement at an individual ability level. The Award is given weekly at Monday assembly to an Infants and a Primary student. The names of the students are published in the school newsletter.

AUSSIE OF THE MONTH AWARD
The Aussie is awarded each month. One student is chosen from each grade according to a set criteria under the headings of peaceful, forgiving, loving, hopeful, creative, prophetic and religious, in other words, students who try to be like Jesus in their everyday actions. The Award is presented monthly at Monday’s assembly to a student from each grade. The names of the students are published in the school newsletter.

PLAY FAIR AWARD
Students are nominated per grade for The Play Fair Award and teachers vote according to playground observations and The Play Fair Charter detailed below. The Award is presented monthly at Monday’s assembly to a student from each grade. The names of the students are published in the school newsletter.
Play Fair Charter: We at our school agree that when playing sport we will:
o Enjoy ourselves
o Play by the rules
o Respect the referees and umpires
o Be gracious winners and dignified losers
o Co-operate with the coach, teammates and opponents
o Play hard but fair

CLASS AWARDS
Class awards are awarded by class teachers at each Monday assembly. These can be given for a variety of purposes including outstanding class work, Christian behaviour, improvement, encouragement, etc.

BOOKWORK AWARDS
School and Religious Education books from K – 6 are collected in Terms 1 and 3 by the Assistant Principal and Religious Education Coordinator. Awards may be given to students in each class for effort in presentation of work. These awards are presented at a Monday assembly.
